Version 2 of the HomeAware microsensor was released to select Beta Customers in 2021. The primary purpose of the HomeAware microsensor is to deliver a subset of HomeAware’s capabilities to early beta testers to support the productization of the HomeAware product. The microsensor will be continually updated and upgraded as our product continues to evolve.
Before we can discuss how the microsensor works and how it’s different from the full sensor, it’s important to understand how HomeAware detects devices in general.
Take a look at the image below:
All wireless devices use one or more types of communication depending on what they do. For example, cellular phones use cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth to communicate in different ways. HomeAware collects all three of these types of signals to detect presence and learn about the device and the person who uses it.
HomeAware also performs network discovery. By learning about devices that are connected to the home’s local WiFi networks, we can learn a lot about devices even without collecting the raw signaling in the air. In fact, most of the “Awareness” services HomeAware will provide are possible with network discovery alone.
